While the company is consistently ranked in the top five of ERP vendors, they are generally a second tier provider overall.1 Lawson is considered the leader in certain sub-markets, principally service industries such as healthcare, education and financial institutions.

    According to Computerworld magazine, Lawson was the first ERP vendor to deliver a web-deployable software application.[citation needed]

    Lawson Software was founded in 1975 by brothers Richard and Bill Lawson. The company is based in St. Paul, Minnesota. In the fiscal year ending in May 2006, it reported total revenues of 0 million USD.

The company is the result of the 2001 merger between the Norwegian software house Agresso Group ASA and Unit 4. Unit 4 Agresso has subsidiaries in the UK, Spain, Germany, Portugal, France, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Canada. Agresso R&D, the software development branch of Unit 4 Agresso, is located in Oslo, Norway.

    Unit 4 Agresso develops, implements and sells several ERP packages, including the full-suite ERP solution, Agesso Business World, which consists of a smart-client (i.e. windows based client) and a platform independent client that runs via a web browser.

    Description: SAP was founded in 1972 as Systemanalyse und Programmentwicklung by five former IBM engineers in Mannheim (Dietmar Hopp, Hasso Plattner, Klaus Tschira, Claus Wellenreuther and Hans-Werner Hector). The acronym was later changed to stand for Systeme, Anwendungen und Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung ("Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing"), in 1976 SAP GmbH was founded; the next year its headquarters was moved to Walldorf and since the 2005 annual general meeting the company's official name is just SAP AG. Henning Kagermann became the sole CEO of SAP in 2003.[1] In February 2007 Mr. Kagermann's contract was extended until 2009. Based on this decision, Shai Agassi, Member of the Executive Board, has left the organization. Mr. Agassi had been named as the successor of Kagermann.
